Introduction
Many of the patients, who receive care within health care facilities, including hospices, residential care, assisted living, and rehabilitation facilities, represent the target group of “seriously ill” patients for whom California’s Compassionate Use Act was intended.
California’s Medical Marijuana Program Act acknowledges the important role of health care facility owners, administrators, and medical staff in reaching those patients who may benefit from cannabis as a treatment modality.
With the assistance of Roger Barnes, MD, Rolando Tringale, MD and attorney Stewart Richlin, the MCC Directory.org & Training Program formed the Health Care Facilities Committee to develop information, resources and services to assist physicians, health care facility owners, administrators and medical staff in developing protocols for providing medical cannabis to patients with a physician’s approval or recommendation.
